The funniest things happen sometimes. Had a phone message last night to say I had to go to Edinburgh to drive mother & Gladys home because father has caught a chill. This morning I rang up Elsie & she says Alice rang up & said she couldn't come tonight & then 10 minutes later she rang up & said she could. Poppy's natural inference was thstvI had rung up in the interim and cancelled my (supposed) engagement with Alice because I had to go to Edinburgh- and she still believes it!
